Special Programs and Field Trips
At Academy of the City, we're dedicated to bring our students as much of the cultural aspects of New York City as we can. In that vein, we've partnered up with Carnegie Hall for four years in a row with two of their exceptional programs - Musical Explorers for grades 1 and 2 and Link Up for grades 3, 4, and 5.
In Musical Explorers, the students are exposed to three genres of music per semester, culminating in a field trip to Carnegie Hall to attend a live performance of the performers studied. In the past, we've sung and danced to Argentinian folk, American jug band and Haitian song. To check out this year's selection for the spring, click on either 1st Grade Music & Chorus or 2nd Grade Music & Chorus and scroll down to Musical Explorers.
In the Link Up program, our older students are brought into the exciting world of symphonic music and orchestras! The curriculum is based on vocal and recorder selections and culminates in an end-of-year field trip to Carnegie Hall to sing and play along with the orchestra. We're excited to announce that this year, Carnegie Hall is rolling out a new curriculum called The Orchestra Sings! To check out more about this program, click here: Link Up: The Orchestra Sings!
